Audra's versatility and breadth in her career as an artist is second to none. She has won six Tony Awards, two Grammy Awards and one Emmy Award. Audra McDonald, winner of the prestigious six Tony Awards in a row and two Grammy Awards in 2015 was recognized as one of Time magazine's 100 Most Influential People. President Barack Obama also awarded her the National Medal of Arts -the highest honor in America for achievements in this field. An enthralling singer who has an extraordinary gift for dramatically telling the truth Ms. O'Connor is at ease in Broadway in addition to the stage for opera as well as on television. In addition to her work in the theatre, she is also a prominent performer as a concert and recording artist who performs regularly at most prestigious venues in the world. McDonald is a native of California, born in Fresno California to a music family, completed her training in classical singing at the New York's Juilliard School. She won her initial Tony Award in 1994 for the Best Performance of a Featured actress in a musical for Carousel which was staged at Lincoln Center Theater. In the four following years, she was awarded two additional Tony Awards as a featured actress for her roles on Terrence Mcnally's Broadway debuts Master Class (1996) and Ragtime (1998). The total number of Tony Awards is unprecedented at three before age 30. The actress won her fourth Tony in 2004, starring alongside Sean Diddy Combs in A Raisin in the Sun and in 2012. In 2012 she was awarded five Tony Awards and was the first time in the category of leading actress for her role in The Gershwins Porgy and Bess as the main character. She made Broadway history when she became the world's most famous Tony Award winner. Her portrayal in the role of Billie Holiday at Emerson's Bar & Grill, the role which also served to launch her Olivier Award nominated debut on London's West End in 2017, was the reason she received six awards. First actor given awards in four distinct acting categories, McDonald also set a record for the amount of awards an actor has been awarded. Her other credits for theater includes The Secret Garden (1993) Marie Christine (1999) Henry IV (2004) 110 in the Shade (2007) Twelfth Night (2009) in which she made Twelfth Night (2009), which was her Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park debut show, Shuffle Along or the Making of the Musical Sensation in 1921 as well as All That Followed (2016) Frankie and Johnny in Clair de Lune (2019) and Ohio State Murders (2023). McDonald's first appearance as a dramatic actor on television was on the Peabody Award-winning CBS series Having Our Say The Delany Sisters' first 100 years. Her next role was that of a regular actor on NBC's Law & Order Special Victims Unit and she was a part of the cast with Kathy Bates and Victor Garber. McDonald, who was awarded the Emmy Award nomination for 1999 for her work in the HBO adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play Wit which was written and performed by Emma Thompson, returned on the network's air in 2003 for the political drama Mister Sterling. The film was written and produced by Emmy Award-winning Lawrence O'Donnell Jr. The Bedford Diaries on the WB at the beginning of 2006, and Kidnapped, NBC. In 2016, McDonald was nominated for an additional Emmy Award for her appearance in HBO's Lady Day at Emerson's Bar Restaurant & Grill, a movie-special. The Bite was a six episode pandemic themed drama produced in collaboration with Spectrum Originals in collaboration with CBS Studios. The actress first appeared in the role of U.S. attorney Liz Lawrence in 2009 on CBS's legal comedy The Good Wife in 2018 McDonald reprised her part (now called Liz Reddick) as a season regular of The Good Fight on Paramount+ with 3 Critics Choice Award nominations for her role. The actress is currently acting as a guest in Julian Fellowes' historical drama The Gilded Age, which airs on HBO.
